About Us
For over 60 years Bernicia has been a highly respected organisation providing quality affordable homes and delivering a range of exceptional services to people across the North East region.
We own and manage over 14,000 properties and have a continuous pipeline of new homes in development, across a range of property types and tenures. We provide housing and services for single people, couples, families and older residents and for people who need a bit more support to enjoy the independence of living in their own home.
Our commercial subsidiary, Kingston, is a profit for purpose company. It is the premier leasehold block and open spaces management company in the region and through its estate agency, Living Spaces, it provides sales and private rented services to a wide range of customers.
Our charitable Bernicia Foundation provides additional support to strengthen communities and help equip people for life and to realise their true potential
In April 2022 we launched our new four-year Housing People, Helping People corporate strategy, which will see us invest over £210m in services, in new and existing homes, in neighbourhoods, in communities and in the North East region.
About our Board
We seek to reflect the communities we serve within our governance structure. In 2023, Bernicia Group Board again took part in diversity monitoring as part of the National Housing Federation EDI data collection.

The Group Board has established a list of essential and desirable skills that the boards and committees require to undertake their roles. Recruitment is based on the skills gap analysis and takes into account the diversity of the membership.
In recruiting our Board members, we are seeking applicants from a wide background and would be interested in hearing from people with skills, knowledge and experience in:
- project management risk, communications and PR
- finance, audit and risk background
- strategic human resources and knowledge at a senior level of the employment environment.
- identifying and responding to vulnerability and offering human-centric service provision.
- knowledge and experience in information and communication technology
Details of our Board and Committee membership is published on our website along with the individual skills and experience of members: click here

This has come at a really good time just when we needed it. The house is perfect with two bedrooms – we wouldn’t have been able to afford it without the shared ownership scheme
